Pansy, Fern and April dolls will make you smile! And importantly too they will make the little (and big!) people you give them to smile as well. These lovely little dolls are unique, they are related to some that used to be made to populate dolls’ houses and entertain children in the years before toys were mass produced. Making the dolls was a tradition in my family- my Mum made them for me when I was a child. She was such a keen crafter and loved making beautiful things for our family. When she became ill I joined in to help and have been making them ever since. I love making them because they are very adorable of course, but most importantly I love making them because I love watching children fall in love with them.
I hand-make each doll using pipe cleaners and yarn, so they are all totally unique can be played with by children over the age of three years. I make them in family sets (that can be custom made to fit with whatever family means to you) , storybook character sets (nursey rhymes, fairy tales), theme sets (pirates, fairies, animals, dancers) and for different purposes ( book buddies, tooth fairies, worry dolls, souvenirs, birthday gifts, Christmas decorations).
I also love sharing the way making things can be such fun, so I make craft kits too. I use the skills I developed as a teacher and as a project designer for an embroidery magazine to produce kits for making the little dolls, kits for making felt animals, kits for cross stitch designs and kits for embroidery project designs.
My lovely dolls can be purchased online at pansyfernapril.etsy.com and also at my Salamanca Market stall in Hobart- site 99.
