Situated on the waterfront in Strahan, we are much more than a traditional visitor information centre.
For the Visitor
Ready to explore beyond the range of mobile signal? Now is the time to plan your West Coast adventure – be inspired by visiting the West Coast Tas website and then let us do all the legwork. We can provide local tips and updated information for all areas of the West Coast, and we work directly with operators to develop and book your itinerary – all designed with your interests and budget in mind.
For the Local
Now is the perfect time to rediscover your backyard – and how lucky are we to have rainforests, walks, wilderness, lakes, oceans and more right on our doorstep! At the Centre we can help you discover those lesser-known places, providing information on the best ways to explore them all. Do you have friends and family keen to head West? Let us take the stress out of organising their visit – we can book accommodation, activities and tours for your guests so that all you need to do is sit back and make the most of spending time with loved ones.
West Coast Reflections Exhibition
Do you know the story of the people of Macquarie Harbour? Discover the stories of indigenous peoples and convicts to brave piners exploring the waters around Strahan, through to the infamous battle to save the Franklin River – all captured in the Reflections Exhibition, located within the Centre. We are also a Learning Destination for the Children’s University of Tasmania. Students can bring their passports and journey through the rainforests, caves and oral histories to explore our amazing history. Entry to exhibition is free for Children’s University students.
The perfect way to remember the West Coast
We stock the popular – and award winning – official West Coast brand merchandise, along with locally made timber and soap products, a range of adults and children’s books – and more! Need a gift but unsure what to purchase? Our gift vouchers are popular – allowing recipients the opportunity to select the items they really need (or want).
